The church has lost its sense of purpose; they people don't know their calling. They fail to receive the call God has placed on their life, to make disciples of all nations. We must regain our sense of purpose, and like Jesus in Mark 4, allow nothing to stand in the way of accomplishing it.

Advent is a season of waiting. During this time, we wait and prepare for our celebration of Jesus' birth. We remember how the believers of Old Testament times waited for the Savior's coming, and in the same way we await his return. We must do so because, if we don't expect him to come, we'll miss out on the day of his appearance.

In this message, we see that Abraham was a man of extraordinary faith. He trusted in God, he continued to believe that God would fulfill his promise, even when commanded to offer his son as a burnt offering. Pastor Kent Sperry points out that we too must have this faith because we will also, at times, be forced to choose between God and those we love, between obedience and disobedience, between faith and unbelief.
